Update on All American Asphalt (AAA)
City of Irvine Announces Plans to Establish Gateway Preserve
Proposed program involves acquisition and closure of the All American Asphalt plant, concurrent with a land dedication from the Irvine Company to pay for the transaction while also facilitating creation of an open space preserve and a new residential village.
Since 2020, Councilmember Agran has advocated for the actions that will most efficiently and quickly remove the All American Asphalt (AAA) plant from the City of Irvine. The City of Irvine now plans to address the All American Asphalt issue and, in turn, establish a 700-acre Gateway Preserve. This is a favorable development that Councilmember Agran has been working on over the past several months with City staff.
The proposed program involves acquiring and closing the All American Asphalt plant, a sizable land dedication from the Irvine Company, an expansion of the City’s housing supply in a new residential village, an extension of the Jeffrey Open Space Trail, and the creation of additional trails for hiking and biking. As a subcommittee member, Councilmember Agran will continue to work through and complete this complex deal, which still requires additional work in the days ahead.
Most notably, Councilmember Agran would also like to thank the many north Irvine residents who have worked tirelessly to advocate for their communities and the closure of the All American Asphalt plant. This is a testament to the fact that citizen activism can and does make a difference.
