Earlier this week, Councilmember Agran circulated a memo to his Council Colleagues, reiterating previous requests for a second signature in order to place items on an upcoming City Council Meeting agenda. Seeking a second signature, or co-sponsor, is required under the agenda-setting rules of this City Council.

The four important matters that he seeks to place on a City Council agenda are:

  1. Consideration of a presentation and status update on the Veterans Memorial Park & Cemetery.

  2. A special City Council Meeting for a public discussion on the All American Asphalt Plant toxic emissions that are affecting the quality of life for the residents in the north Irvine vicinity.

  3. Consideration of the proposal to establish a Great Park Residents Advisory Committee.

  4. A public discussion of whether the City Council should move from at-large elections to district elections.

All these items were previously previewed by Councilmember Agran in some fashion during a Council Meeting, in addition to having been circulated to City Council. Not one agenda item request received a second, so he recirculated them again this week in the hopes that these important matters might make it on to a future agenda.

To learn more about why Councilmember Agran seeks to agendize each item, read on.

All American Asphalt

For more than two years, thousands of residents in north Irvine have been adversely affected by toxic chemicals and noxious odors associated with the operations of the All American Asphalt plant. Here is a video of Councilmember Agran raising the issue at a Council Meeting back in January.

Great Park Residents Advisory Committee

In the video below, Councilmember Agran shares his proposal for City Council to publicly discuss establishing a Great Park Residents Advisory Committee. Regrettably, the matter never reached a second signature and was not discussed at a meeting of the City Council or the Great Park Board.

District Elections

In the video below, Councilmember Agran makes a statement on district elections and shares his proposal to agendize a public discussion of the matter. A couple of days later, the Councilmember circulated a memo to his colleagues, but no second signature was forthcoming.
