Quick Reads | 2023 High School Art Exhibition

Last week, Councilmember Agran visited Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County's Distribution Center and their 48-acre Harvest Solutions Farm, right here in the City of Irvine. In 18 months, the farm has grown over 3 million pounds of produce. The Second Harvest Food provides much-needed access to nutritious food through 285 partners at 310 distribution sites. Councilmember Agran thanks the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County for its leadership in working toward food and nutritional security for all in Orange County.

Volunteers are vital to the success of the Harvest Solutions Farm.

Councilmember Agran was pleased to represent the City Council at the opening reception for Art at City Hall, an exhibition that celebrates our talented student artists. Their artwork gives City Hall an incredibly vibrant look! The exhibition will be on display at City Hall through Friday, July 21, so I encourage everyone to stop by City Hall and view the art exhibit.

On Saturday, April 22, Councilmember Agran joined the community at the Irvine Police Department's 2023 Open House at Irvine City Hall. Our residents come together to learn about the City's outstanding police department through drone and motorcycle demonstrations, and visits with our K-9s, DARE Officers, mounted unit, SWAT Team, CERT Program, and more. Councilmember Agran thanks Chief Kent and the Irvine Police Department for their dedication to protecting our residents.

Meet Robert, a 9th grader from Irvine who was awarded a $500 grant by Hershey's Heartwarming Heroes to create 50 windowsill gardens! He was also awarded California Eagle Scout of the Year by the California Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. Robert's leadership united high school students over the weekend to create a little piece of art and nature for our senior community. Congratulations to Robert and the High School Youth Action Team on their fantastic service project for Global Youth Service Day!

Councilmember Agran also enjoyed attending the 2022 Senior Services Volunteer Recognition at the Lakeview Senior Center on Friday, April 21. This annual event highlights the selfless volunteers supporting our senior community. Thanks to the Senior Citizens Council and City staff for keeping our Senior Services Programs running at their best!

For over 40 years, the Irvine Animal Care Center has provided shelter, care, and enrichment for homeless, neglected, abused, or unwanted animals. Over the weekend, our office attended the Irvine Animal Care Center Volunteer Appreciation Event! Councilmember Agran thanks the volunteers who give their time – making it possible to continue the shelter’s high-quality service. Your dedication and accomplishments throughout the year are greatly appreciated.
