Irvine City Council Launches Investigation of the Orange County Power Authority
During a special meeting of the Irvine City Council on June 14, Councilmember Larry Agran successfully moved to launch a City-led investigation of the Orange County Power Authority. His colleagues unanimously voted 4-0 (Councilmember Carroll absent) with him to authorize and direct the City to do the following:
Commence an independent, comprehensive audit of the Orange County Power Authority
Retain special legal counsel and specialists to advise the City in the liability of OCPA’s operations to the City, its ratepayers, and its taxpayers
Examine the legality of OCPA’s meeting and Board member policies
In his latest podcast appearance, Councilmember Agran expressed some optimism about the investigation and the Council’s support:
“Irvine [is] finally asking the kinds of questions that need to be asked…the motion [that passed] requires the City Manager to come back with all kinds of information at our next Council meeting.”
To give the public a progress report on the City’s investigation, Councilmember Agran continued the special meeting to June 28 at 1 PM. To tune into that meeting, review the Irvine City Council agendas webpage; agendas are posted 7 days before the meeting.
