In response to residents’ continuing concerns about street racing and modified exhaust enforcement, Councilmembers Agran and Kuo agendized a presentation by the Irvine Police Department on the topic.

Slides from the presentation are available for download here.

“Vehicular violence is so pervasive, we tend to think of it as normal,” commented Councilmember Agran in response to the presentation. “The data presented by the Irvine Police Department assures me, as it should our residents, that our evolving enforcement strategy is increasingly effective.”

IPD encourages citizens to contact the business line at 949-724-7000 whenever they hear or witness evidence of street racing or loud vehicles. Even if your report does not result in a citation or arrest, it helps inform the police of patterns of illegal activity throughout the community. For example, it may be revealed that a street-racing event occurs on a regular basis, or that a specific loud vehicle passes an area on a recurring basis. In either case, when a pattern is observed, the police may be able to do some directed enforcement.

To make a report, call the business line at 949-724-7000. Of course, in an emergency, such as an accident, call the emergency line at 911.
