Councilmember Larry Agran was pleased to join with his Council colleagues to adopt a resolution in support of the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, also known as CEDAW. In 1980, President Carter signed CEDAW but it was never approved by the Congress as a Treaty. Since then, cities across the United States have adopted CEDAW to affirm their commitment to eliminating discrimination against women and to urge the federal government to do the same. Councilmember Agran is pleased to note that Irvine is the first city in Orange County to take this step.
