A Sneak Peek: OC Sustainability Decathlon Begins Thursday, October 5th!

Today, I toured the Orange County Fair & Event Center to get a preview of this weekend's Orange County Sustainability Decathlon. The City of Irvine is a proud sponsor of the OC Sustainability Decathlon, a sustainability competition held from October 5-8 and October 12-15 at the Orange County Fair & Event Center. Opening Ceremonies are Thursday, October 5 from 1-3 p.m.

The Decathlon celebrates eco-friendly practices and features ten sustainable homes and four exhibit homes designed and built by talented college teams of architects, builders, and innovators. Southern California teams include those from UC Irvine, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Long Beach, and Cal Poly Pomona.

I invite and encourage residents to come out, tour the homes, and ask student builders questions at the Orange County Sustainability Decathlon. Go to OCSD23.com to get more information and register for the free app which details daily events.

About the Competition: These homes showcase the latest advancements and innovations in sustainable living. With a budget of $100,000, each team was challenged to create ultra-efficient dwellings that could be easily replicated. The winning team will take home a prestigious trophy.

For those interested in or passionate about sustainability, there will also be a Career and College Fair on October 13th, featuring guest speakers, vendors, and activities for children. We're excited to offer you and your family the chance to learn about sustainability in a fun and engaging way. Join us at the OC Sustainability Decathlon and participate in the movement toward a more sustainable world.

Mark your calendars now, and we'll see you there!
