Tomorrow marks one week since Councilmember Agran circulated a memo to agendize a discussion on whether or not Irvine should move to district elections. Regrettably, none of his Council colleagues have stepped forward to second the item.

Today Councilmember Agran sent a memorandum to his council colleagues requesting their support to agendize a discussion about establishing a system of electing City Councilmembers by districts.

“I believe we should begin the process of transitioning to district elections not because we are forced to by litigation, but because we want to … because we have determined as a community that district elections would provide for a significant improvement in our local representative democracy.”
