Plaza Park reopens following playful, intelligent improvements

Plaza Park in Westpark is officially reopened!

After a closure to allow for improvements last summer — including new playground equipment, signage, shade structures, and walkways — the park officially reopened May 20, 2021 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. In attendance was Jing Sun, Councilmember Agran’s appointee to the Community Services Commission, pictured on the far right.

The newly renovated playground includes playful amenities paying tribute to the agricultural legacy of Irvine Ranch. It features a tractor slide, Farmers Market storefront, sand diggers, orange crate steps, and oversized play citrus trees and asparagus — the official City of Irvine vegetable.

The improvements are expected to offer a safer, more educational and comfortable play area for kids and their families for years to come. Thanks to Jing, his colleagues on the Community Services Commission, and City Staff for continuing to bring thoughtful improvements like this to community spaces across the City.
