Introducing Katherine Wu and the Irvine Climate Coalition!

Katherine Wu (pictured above), a Community Development intern through the Office of Councilmember Larry Agran, invites you to join the Irvine Climate Coalition at bit.ly/irvineclimatecoalition!

Councilmember Agran has created the Community Development intern program to encourage high school and college students to engage with their Irvine community and government. Periodically, interns from the program will feature projects they are leading. This week features Katherine Wu, who has led efforts to coordinate a community action network of climate advocates. Out of her organizing, the Irvine Climate Coalition met on February 28, hosted by the Office of Councilmember Larry Agran, to imagine solutions to climate change and meet other local leaders.

Members of the Irvine Climate Coalition met on February 28! Join the next meeting next Monday, March 14 at 6:30 at bit.ly/irvineclimatecoalition.

Hi! I’m Katherine Wu and I’m currently a junior at University High School. I’m passionate about health and environmental justice, and I am so happy to be promoting positive change in Irvine through my internship with Councilmember Agran’s Community Development team. In my free time, I enjoy listening to and playing a variety of music, as well as thrift shopping around OC!

Last week, I helped Councilmember Agran host an event called “Invest in Our Future: Building an Irvine Climate Coalition.” There, five leading environmental groups invited us to get involved in Irvine on climate advocacy and sustainability action. It was a great event!

If you want to get involved with our work, RSVP for our meeting next Monday, March 14 at 6:30 on Zoom at bit.ly/irvineclimatecoalition.

At next Monday’s event, our featured speakers will be Ayn Craciun and Alexis Hernandez from Climate Action Campaign, a community-driven nonprofit. In this presentation, Climate Action Campaign’s OC team will provide surprising insights on how fossil fuels are harming Irvine families, particularly among marginalized communities, and what you can do to address environmental injustice and reduce emissions at the scale of the climate crisis this year.

We are planning more events in the community, and if you are a climate advocate or a young person looking for service hours, you should join us next week to contribute! We hope to see you next Monday, March 14 at 6:30 PM at bit.ly/irvineclimatecoalition.
