Councilmember Larry Agran Unveils Veterans Memorial Park Proposal

During a press briefing at Irvine City Hall, Larry Agran (pictured) unveiled his proposal for a Veterans Memorial Park.

At a press briefing held on Dec. 8, 2021, I unveiled my proposal for a Veterans Memorial Park on the ARDA site, located at the Great Park’s northern edge. The City Council can act now to honor our veterans on this city-owned, 125-acre parcel. Zoned for a memorial park, ARDA can be the site of a Perimeter Park, urban forest, botanical garden, mural flag, and more.

The ARDA site today is an eyesore, strewn with debris, dormant and dilapidated.

With the City Council affirming my resolution, I see an opportunity to transform City land and remember our veterans with a Veterans Memorial Park. The ARDA site was already designated a “veterans memorial park” by voter-approved ballot measures two times, including specific zoning of the site.

This video explores the features a Veterans Memorial Park can have.

Contact the City Council to tell us what you want to see on the ARDA site. Stay tuned for an announcement of 2022 community meetings to help develop the beautification of the ARDA site.
