Agran appoints Martin Reiner to Transportation Commission
Former city planner and renewable energy expert Martin Reiner will serve as Councilmember Larry Agran’s appointee to the City of Irvine’s Transportation Commission.
Irvine is consistently ranked one of the most liveable, safe cities in the United States with some of the top schools in the nation. If there is one area where the City has yet to match that standard of excellence, it may well be transportation. Congestion and the lack of public transit within Irvine remain persistent problems. Good transportation policy not only improves mobility, it is one of the best ways cities can do their part to address climate change locally.
For all these reasons and more, Councilmember Agran is delighted Martin Reiner has joined the team. His experience across the private and public sectors positions him uniquely to advise and guide the Commission and City Council on these important matters.
The next Transportation Commission meeting is Tuesday, February 16 at 5:30pm. For more on the commission, click here.
About Martin Reiner
For more than 20 years, Martin Reiner has brought strategic benefit to both public and private sector interests working in the built environment by providing the analytic tools that are critical to forward planning and decision-making. He has substantial experience with infill development, comprehensive planning, land-use, entitlement, design, transportation, sustainable energy, and other critical environmental issues.
Martin’s ability to envision and implement a project has been founded on his analytic and creative strengths and his ability to achieve consensus among decision-makers and private interests. He has provided insight into issues which have helped to problem-solve for complex projects. Martin believes good planning and good design lead to communities which are both environmentally and socially sustainable and which create long-term economic value for business and commercial interests.
Martin has been working inside the California renewable energy market, focusing on projects with a negative carbon footprint that supply renewable fuels to automobiles and commercial fleet vehicles. These projects have been critical to achieving State mandates for reduction in greenhouse gasses. They are incentivized by Federal and State legislation and they are overseen by the California Air Resources Board.
Martin holds a degree from the University of California, Irvine in Land Use & Environmental Policy. He began his career with the City of Irvine, and he is grateful to be back in service to the community as Transportation Commissioner.
