“We want to hear about the community's interests first as proposals come to the Council for discussion and approval.  

The Champions Stadium is a facility built by the City of Irvine. It's on our land. We maintain it, created it, and make it available. I want to prioritize the use of the stadium first for our community.”

On the September 13, 2022, Council meeting, councilmembers voted (5-0) to approve a one-year extension of the city contract with the Orange County Soccer Club to continue using the Championship Soccer Stadium at the Great Park.

While Larry support the professional sports team, the soccer community, and community-based organizations' use of this prominent venue, he looks forward to city staff developing a proposal rooted in expanding the community access to the stadium.
