Time to move forward on Veterans Memorial Park & Cemetery

The CalVet study comparing the “golf course” and ARDA site for the purpose of the Veterans Memorial Park & Cemetery is now circulating

The study confirmed what is already well-known: the per-acre cost ($500,000/acre) is virtually the same for both sites, though the ARDA site is larger and therefore more costly overall. CalVet also confirmed it is the City of Irvine’s job to choose which site to offer the state.

With this distraction out of the way, Councilmember Agran is optimistic that the issue can now achieve some forward momentum.

“Despite enduring community support, the Veterans Memorial Park & Cemetery has suffered countless, needless delays over the seven years it has been before the City. As we waited for this study, regrettably, we lost another six months,” explains Councilmemember Agran. “The ARDA site has not only been studied and approved by CalVet; it has been approved by the residents of the City of Irvine on multiple occasions; and was adopted by the City Council last year as the exclusive venue for a Veterans Memorial Park & Cemetery in Irvine. I look forward to this matter being brought to the City Council at the earliest opportunity so we can follow the law and move forward.”
