State Senators urge Council to take action on Veterans Memorial Park and Cemetery

Once again, last night’s City Council Meeting was flooded with comments from Irvine residents urging the Council to move forward on the Veterans Memorial Park and Cemetery. 

Their comments echoed the request of State Senators David Min and Tom Umberg who are urging the Mayor and Council to adopt a resolution reaffirming the previous City Council’s May 12, 2020 decision and ordinance declaring the 125-acre ARDA site in the Orange County Great Park the exclusive site available for the project. As the senators outlined in a letter to the Mayor and City Council yesterday, failure to pass such a resolution jeopardizes funding for the project and risks putting the entire undertaking in limbo.

In response, last night Councilmember Agran reiterated his determination to work with the Mayor and other Councilmembers to agendize an appropriate item to fully discuss and adopt a resolution to allow the City to move forward with the Veterans Memorial Park and Cemetery at the Great Park ARDA site. Here is the report he made to Council on the topic:
