Things to Do in Irvine: Memorial Day Weekend 2023

Join me in honoring our special men and women and paying tribute to our local heroes for their service and sacrifice. The City’s annual Memorial Day ceremonies will be held on Sunday, May 28, at 4 pm at Northwood Community Park and Monday, May 29, at 10 am at Colonel Bill Barber Park. This City tradition is one we will forever cherish!

City Council Districting and Expansion Workshop

Tomorrow, Saturday, May 27th at 10 a.m.
Lakeview Senior Center, 20 Lake Road.

Come out tomorrow to learn how you can be part of the City’s district formation process and meet National Demographics Corporation, the City’s professional demographer. Why should you care? The City of Irvine is pursuing a shift in how voters elect its City Council. All City of Irvine registered voters currently vote for the Mayor and four City Councilmembers. Upon completing the districting process, the City of Irvine would have six (6) separate voting districts. Beginning in 2024, each voter would vote for the Mayor and one Councilmember to represent their district.

We need your help to shape the future of our City Council districts. Community members can propose district lines and submit as many maps as they want throughout the district formation process. The deadline to submit district maps for consideration is June 29th.

National Public Works Week

This week, we honor and celebrate the tireless efforts of our Public Works team. This annual commemoration serves as a reminder of the vital role that our Public Works team plays in connecting our community through essential services. I enjoyed attending the 2023 National Public Works Week event at the Great Park this Wednesday. I was amazed by the impressive range of tools utilized by our team to ensure the seamless operation of our City. I am deeply grateful for their unwavering commitment and hard work.
