Irvine Embraces “Cool City Challenge” To Address Climate Change

You're invited to join the Cool City Challenge, a climate moonshot strategy to get the City of Irvine to carbon neutrality by 2030. Developed by the Empowerment Institute, this initiative lays out a strategy for cities to reach inclusive, community-wide sustainability.

The City seeks community members to volunteer as a Cool Block Team Leader where your job will be to recruit neighbors, facilitate meetings, and track team-building discussions. Group meetings can be in a living room, a community room, or a zoom room, whatever is easiest for you.

Please see the program invite here and the Cool Block Journey video highlighting the eight meeting topics.

Councilmember Agran said, "This is a grassroots program to drive climate action and Irvine-wide sustainability goals. I encourage people to sign up for the Cool City Challenge and be involved in the team-building process. It's going to be a lot of fun, and you'll get to know your neighbors better."

City of Irvine staff will provide training materials and resources to the Team Leaders throughout the program.
