Irvine City Council Receives Funds for Completion of Jeffrey Open Space Trail

The City of Irvine received $14.5 million from the State of California to finish the last 1.5 miles of the Jeffrey Open Space Trail.

State Senator Dave Min was recently on hand to present Irvine City Councilmembers with the final portion of funds needed to complete the popular biking and hiking trail from the northern part of Irvine all the way to the coast.

Covid 19 has highlighted the importance and value of Irvine’s parks and Open Spaces. Councilmember Agran has been a huge proponent of preserving Irvine’s open space. In 2014 he stated: "Open Space preserved in perpetuity — as it is in Irvine — can be a powerful safeguard against the encroachment of uncontrolled growth and development. Open Space has inherent value for all of us. It provides balance in our planned community. And it should serve as a reminder of our ethical and environmental responsibilities as well: We are not here to conquer the land — we are here to be wise stewards of the land for the long-term benefit of humanity."
