Councilmember Agran Continues to Advocate for Condemnation Proceedings Against All American Asphalt

Councilmember Agran will continue to advocate for the actions that will efficiently and quickly remove All American Asphalt from the City of Irvine. In keeping this promise, last night Councilmember Agran put this issue on the Council agenda for discussion, and direction to bring forth the initiation of condemnation proceedings against All American Asphalt.

“I want to hasten the shutdown and removal of the All American Asphalt plant so that our residents don’t continue to suffer further from this public health crisis. Asphalt plants are major air polluters, and no one in our city should be subject to the risk of health problems associated with this operation.”

In hopes of introducing this discussion, Councilmember Agran offered a motion to have the City Manager and City Attorney be directed to return to the next City Council meeting prepared to initiate condemnation proceedings to be filed by October 5, 2022. October 5 is California Clean Air Day, and the City Council approved a California Clean Air Day proclamation earlier in the meeting.

Because no other members of the City Council were willing to support Councilmember Agran's motion, the community was not given the opportunity to effectively participate in the discussions of the condemnation option.

The matter is scheduled to be considered again at the next City Council meeting (9/27), when the City Manager will present a broad range of options regarding All American Asphalt.
