At last night’s City Council Meeting, the City Council discussed the future of the Veterans Memorial Park and Cemetery at the Great Park. Dozens of people shared their opinions late into the night. In the end, the Council took no action despite a detailed resolution presented by Councilmember Agran.

The resolution proposed by Councilmember Agran (copied below) proposes to begin on-site demolition and clean-up of the 125-acre ARDA site within 60 days. It also instructs City Staff to take preliminary steps to build a Perimeter Park including trees, trails, and memorial gardens.

“This resolution captures the will of the people as expressed in the Build the Great Park Veterans Cemetery Initiative, which was ratified by a 4-to-1 vote of the previous City Council on May 12, 2020,” explained Councilmember Agran. “If my colleagues have any interest in following the letter of the law, I trust they will step forward to support this resolution the next time I bring it forward.”
